What is Welcome app?

Imagine this: you’re trying to build a new life in a foreign country – from scratch. Where do you start? Information is not easily accessible, you don’t speak the language yet, and you don’t know how to connect with new people. Many newcomers in the Netherlands face this challenge.

Welcome app makes building your new life easier. We do this by making relevant information, activities, services, and local organizations accessible in one place: the Welcome app. We currently work for six municipalities: Almere, Den Bosch, Dordrecht, Leiden, Oegstgeest, and Venlo. Our ambition is to grow to 65 Dutch municipalities in the next three years. We also have international ambitions.

What will you do?

As a Marketing & Communication intern, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to communicate with our various target groups and strengthen our brand position. Your role includes creating compelling content, managing social media channels, and contributing to strategic marketing initiatives. From creating relevant posts to collaborating on campaigns, you will have the opportunity to apply your creativity and communication skills in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management: You will be involved in our social media; by brainstorming, creating, and scheduling posts in line with our content calendar. You will also ensure that the content we share is consistent with our branding. Additionally, you will analyze our social media performance for continuous improvement.
  • Content Creation and Optimization: You will create content for all our target groups (newcomers, locals, organizations, and municipalities). You will work on the graphic design of newsletters, sales & pitch decks, marketing campaigns, flyers & posters, and other promotional materials. We use Canva.
Executing Existing Marketing Plans and Ad-Hoc Communication. Occasionally, you will accompany our Project Coordinators on visits to municipalities to gather user experiences and get a feel for what we actually do.
  • Strengthening Collaboration Between Business Development and Marketing: Our goal is to expand the reach of the Welcome app to multiple new municipalities. This means we focus on generating leads. We are actively engaged in executing strategic campaigns and exploring new marketing opportunities, such as sharing case studies.
  • Website: Maintaining the website using WordPress.
  • Brand Strengthening: You will contribute to a cohesive visual and verbal identity, with special attention to intercultural communication.

Who are we looking for?

You are a creative person with an eye for detail, and you enjoy creating various types of content. You also know a lot about marketing and how to write strong texts. You have a way of working where you take the lead and act proactively: you stand out among others. Additionally, you speak both Dutch and English (at least B2 level). Finally, a migration background is a plus.

What do we offer?

  • An internship from July to September (exact period and start date are negotiable, extension is also possible).
  • A varied part-time job of 24-36 hours per week.
  • Contributing to and building a growing tech start-up with a social goal and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on newcomers.
  • An internship allowance.
  • A flexible schedule and the possibility to work hybrid.
  • The chance to develop various skills and build a unique network.
  • Free lunch at our beautiful and centrally located office in Amsterdam.
