What is Welcome app?

Imagine: you’re trying to build a new life in a foreign country – from scratch. Where do you start? Information isn’t easily accessible, you don’t yet speak the language, and you don’t know how to connect with new people. Many newcomers in the Netherlands face these challenges.

Welcome app makes building your new life easier. We do this by making relevant information, activities, services, and local organizations accessible in one place: Welcome app. In this way, Welcome app supports municipalities in effectively performing their duties and offers organizations a platform to reach newcomers. Our technology supports integration, participation, self-direction, and equal access to opportunities.

We collaborate with many different parties: municipalities, businesses, and other (social) organizations. We are currently working for five municipalities: Almere, Den Bosch, Dordrecht, Leiden, and Venlo. The ambition is to grow to 65 Dutch municipalities over the next three years. We also have international ambitions.

To boost our growth momentum, we are now looking for a new Business Development Manager.

Who are we looking for?

As a Business Development Manager, you play a crucial role at the heart of our organization. You are responsible for driving our growth by expanding our customer base and developing our Business Development and Sales function, including strategy, processes, and capacity. Your primary assignment: to bring in our new customers, the municipalities. You will work closely with our CEO and Brand & Marketing Manager, but you are our only colleague dedicated to sales. Therefore, it is great if you are a self-starter who can achieve results with minimal supervision.

You excel in identifying opportunities and have an excellent track record in converting these into deals. You are analytical and data-driven, but also have a great sense of people and relationships.

  • Sales and business development strategies: You are responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to achieve organizational goals, including setting sales targets and objectives, identifying market opportunities, and implementing plans to drive revenue growth (and thereby achieve impact objectives).
  • Building and maintaining customer relationships: You cultivate and maintain close relationships with clients, strategic partners, and stakeholders to promote customer satisfaction and retention. You spend time listening & learning about customer needs, and then develop a strategic plan through consultation to support service provision using Welcome app.
  • Monitoring sales performance: You monitor performance against objectives to accurately forecast revenue on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. You analyze areas for improvement and implement strategies to optimize the effectiveness of the business development process. You use and optimize our CRM system and other tools to manage the pipeline and track sales activities and forecasts.
  • Leading business development initiatives: You proactively identify new business opportunities and partnerships, including expanding into new markets, segments, or channels. In close collaboration with Marketing, Product, and other teams, you develop initiatives that stimulate business growth and revenue generation.

What are we looking for?


  • 3-5 years of experience in a leading sales role with ownership over the entire sales process and leading complex negotiations from start to finish, preferably in a technology-driven environment.
  • Organizational sensitivity, understanding, and ability to put yourself in the customer’s shoes.
  • Empathy for the challenges that newcomers face and the drive to effectively address them.
  • Self-starter and creative problem solver with a passion to make a real difference.
  • Experience in developing and implementing go-to-market strategies and using CRM systems and tools to manage forecasts, planning, and revenue registration for all accounts.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse team members and stakeholders; comfortable working in a growing social start-up environment.
  • Excellent Dutch and English language proficiency

  • Experience with decision-making in the (local) public sector and nonprofit domain.
  • Previous experience with technology with social impact.

  • Full-time base salary between €4000- €4400/month, depending on experience), plus commission
