Medior Mendix Developer

Are you eager to elevate our Mendix practice to new heights? Interested in developing a product rather than focusing on short-term projects? Do you want to make a meaningful impact on a more inclusive society through technology, all while working from the heart of Amsterdam (with the option for flexible and hybrid work)? If so, keep reading!

What is Welcome app?

Imagine this: you’re trying to build a new life in a foreign country – from scratch. Where do you start? Information is not easily accessible, you don’t speak the language yet, and you don’t know how to connect with new people. Many newcomers in the Netherlands face this challenge.

Welcome app makes building your new life easier. We do this by making relevant information, activities, services, and local organizations accessible in one place: the Welcome app. This supports municipalities in effectively carrying out their duties and gives organizations a platform to reach newcomers. Our technology fosters integration, participation, self-direction, and equal access to opportunities.

What team will you join?

As a Mendix Developer, you’ll be part of the Product team, which includes a junior Mendix developer, a UX/UI designer, a data analyst, and the Head of Product. You will take on the role of the most senior developer.

In October of last year, the entire platform (native app and web portal included) was rebuilt in Mendix. Over the past year, the team has worked hard to raise the platform to a higher level. In the coming years, the Welcome app is set to grow significantly in terms of both clients and users, and the platform will need to scale to support this growth effectively.

What Will You Be Responsible For?

  • Designing, testing, and implementing features for our native app and web portal.
  • Working alongside our Head of Product, data analyst, and designer to create effective and achievable solutions.
  • Contributing to the company’s technical vision and sharing expertise within the organization.
  • Guiding and mentoring the junior Mendix developer.

Who are we looking for?

  • You have a solid understanding of how to design Mendix applications that are logical, efficient, future-oriented, and easy to maintain. As the most senior developer, you’ll be responsible for steering the technical development of the platform. We expect you to have around three years of experience as a Mendix developer, along with at least an Advanced certification.certificaat onder de arm.
  • The platform features a native app, so experience in native development (creating builds, app store processes, push notifications, styling) is a strong plus in addition to your Mendix expertise.
  • You can articulate and develop various technical solutions in simple terms to help the product team make informed choices. You know how to balance immediate needs with long-term goals.
  • You are analytical and critical, asking insightful questions and collaborating closely with the Head of Product, designer, and data analyst. You strive to understand our users thoroughly and know the product strategy.
  • You prefer to keep your technical setup well-organized, minimizing technical debt, actively monitoring logs, and managing the app in Mendix Studio with appropriate annotations, consistent naming conventions for pages, and a clear folder structure.
  • You are self-reliant. In the Welcome app start-up environment, you switch between collaborating with colleagues and working independently, without a tech lead to guide your work.
  • You are comfortable mentoring the junior developer and enjoy coaching them on technical concepts.
  • You speak good English.
  • Not required, but a bonus: you have a migration background.
  • You are welcoming to newcomers and eager to make a positive impact on a more inclusive society.

What do we offer?

  • A part-time role of 32 hours per week (salary estimate: €3800 for 40 hours).
  • Reimbursement for travel expenses.
  • A central office location in Amsterdam, right by the Keizersgracht.
  • A dynamic work atmosphere with driven colleagues.
  • A lot of freedom! We work in the office at least one day a week (Tuesday), and you can choose where you work the rest of the time. Long-term remote work is also negotiable.
  • The chance to grow with a fast-expanding start-up (with opportunities for career advancement and employee ownership).
  • Time, resources, and support for your professional and personal development.
  • Free lunch at our office.
  • The opportunity to contribute to meaningful change in the lives of newcomers in the Netherlands.
